Hello, my Freaky Darlings!
Today’s serial killer is Thozamile Taki aka The Sugarcane Killer. He’s one of the more recent serial killers. There’s even an episode of Crimes Uncovered (a TV programme in South Africa) coming out soon all about his antics.
Thozamile killed thirteen women between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five. He murdered ten of them in sugarcane plantations around the town of Umzinto and three others in tea plantations around Port St Johns in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Plantations seem to be good places to dump a body. He also, apparently, sold body parts of his victims to sangomas (witch doctors) for muti.
On the 21st of February 2010 Thozamile and eight other prisoners attempted to escape from Westville Prison, where he was incarcerated during his trial. During the attempted escape he fell from the roof of his fourth flour cell seriously injuring himself while the others escaped.
On the 23rd of December 2010 Thozamile was convicted on all thirteen counts of murder. He was sentenced to thirteen life sentences, plus another 208 years, plus a further sixteen years for armed robbery. He was also refused leave to appeal. This dude is never going to see the light of day.
