Pitch Black

Hello my Freaky Darlings,

Today’s movie is Pitch Black (2000).

Yesterday, I went shopping for a pair of shoes that I could take with me to Brighton, for the Bram Stokers (a girl needs a decent pair of heels for a snazzy banquet), and while I was in the Mall I took a detour into the DVD shop. While I was perusing the shelves, I found the DVD I’ve been looking for, for I don’t know how long – Pitch Black with Vin Diesel. Hey, it’s Vin Diesel! What other reason could I possibly need to buy the dvd?

Okay, there were a few other reasons, like the fact that I’ve also got The Chronicles of Riddick and I like to have a full set. Plus when I watched it back in 2000, when it first came out, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The monsters were sufficiently scary looking and I’m a sucker for an anti hero. I love it when the bad guy ends up saving the day.

So, when I got home from the Mall, the first thing I did was pop Pitch Black into the DVD machine, got comfortable on my bed, and watched it for the first time in ten years. I’m happy to report that I still enjoyed it. It didn’t freak me out as much as it did back then, but that was to be expected. It was much better than some of the horror movies I’ve put myself through of late.

Have you seen it? What did you think?

  1. LOVED Pitch Black. It was far, far better than The Chronicles of Riddick. I think Vin Diesel is a hunk and will watch him in anything, no matter how bad.

Have you seen the children’s animated movie, “The Iron Giant”? Vin Diesel lent his voice to the film, and I think it was his first role.
