Shadows Book Trailer

I’ve always been a bit scared of doing a book trailer. For one thing I didn’t have a clue how to do one and I’ve also never been sure of whether or not they actually work for writers.

Then a fabulous writer, Cat Connor, sent me hers and that just scared me even more. She went to so much trouble and its basically a proper movie on it’s own. It’s also brilliantly done.

But then I looked at a few other trailers that were a little on the simpler side which got me thinking, “Hey, maybe I can do this.” My mind then started buzzing and today I finally sat down and slapped something together.

The hardest part was finding some decent music, which I found (once again thanks to Cat) here.

So here’s the trailer. Please let me know what you think and if I need to fix anything.

Hope you enjoyed it!

  1. First off, congrats, Joan! It’s definitely very creepy and evocative. Three thoughts:

    1. Isn’t “loosing” supposed to be “losing”?

    2. Is it necessary for you to have the credits roll at the end? Couldn’t you include this info in the Youtube info? It takes up a large proportion of your video. I’d rather see the video end on a stronger note about the book, rather than the production of the video.

    3. Can you fade the music out at the end?

    I hope this helps!

  2. You see! I keep telling people I can’t spell to save my life.
    Thanks will change that asap.
As for the credits….I have to add that bit about the music otherwise I can’t use it.
Can’t fade the music out, or rather don’t know how to.
Thanks so much for all your thoughts!

  3. You know, if you have a mac (or know someone with a mac), GarageBand has unrestricted music loops you can use without credit. You might want to check it out. You can also edit music in it to fade it out/shorten the duration.

Or, if you have to include the credit, I’d make it smaller type, less time. Seems a shame that it’s taking up so much of your video.
